Cambodia-Week 3, 4, and 5

Week 3 was the beginning of the celebration of Cambodian New Year (Khmer New Year).

Monday, at the school where we teach english, we played games with the kids. On Tuesday there was a big water fight and kids put baby powder on each other and us. Many of us were dripping wet by the end of the afternoon but it was a lot of fun!

On Wednesday I led intercession (prayer and worship) for my team in the morning; I wasn't sure how it would go but it ended up going really well and it was so cool to watch as Holy Spirit touched people on my team. I started by teaching the words and motions for two apostolic prayer songs; one of the kids on my team and his mom helped me do this.  For the rest of our time I taught them how to do the Safe Place drawing prayer activity that I had learn in my Compassion Track back in Kona. My hope in teaching this was two fold- 1)that the members on my team would hear God speak to them that morning and be encouraged as they facilitated the activity in partners and 2) that after learning this exercise we could use it in kids ministry here in Cambodia. Both of these happened! We also used the Safe Place prayer activity to minister to the adults at a small Village church the following Sunday.

Week 4 we visited some different sites around Battambang and prayed and worship over these areas. Some of the places we visited included: Killing Caves & Bat Caves, Killing Fields (Wat Somrong Knong), and Prasat Banan.

Week 5 Two people from our team drove to Phom Phen to try renewing our visa there but were not successful so over Wednesday and Thursday we traveled to Thailand to renew our visas as a team -very long hot days. :) I started to have lots of body aches on the Saturday before this; Sunday woke up with body ache and high fever and finished the day having developed a rash on my hands, arms, and feet. Monday fever was much less but it was pretty clear I had a mild case of Dengue Fever! Lots of people on my team prayed for me over Saturday and Sunday; I think it could have been much worse case so praising God for answered prayer! SO thankful for the people on my team who helped get me across the border and back.

My high fever and rash are totally gone now. Still have a little body pain and headache once in while and I am struggling for energy but today is a rest day for the whole team. I plan to go to village church with members of my team tomorrow and go back to helping at the school on Monday.

There is one more month of DTS! We have two more weeks in Battambang, then we go to Siem Reap for 1 week, then back to Kona, HI to join back up with the other teams for 1 week debrief.

Prayer Requests

1. Provision for the school where we teach English and the teachers and the student's families- last week a big storm destroyed roofs on several house. Our team has raised some money to help already but more is needed!

2. Health for the team- one person has had digestive issues almost every night since we arrived, two people got sick yesterday; we seem to almost always have one or more people struggling with sickness.

3. Unity for the team

Prayer requests for me:

1. Full recovery from Dengue! :)
2. How to best utilize last three weeks in Cambodia- open ears to hear Gods guidance/direction
3. After DTS:

•     What plane tickets to buy and when to buy them
•     Where to live and work after DTS is over- if you have suggestions/ideas keep sending them my way! :)
•     That I would trust God to finish the things He started working in me during DTS even if they don't seem at all finished or make sense right now.

Camboya- Semana 3, 4, & 5

La semana 3 fue el comienzo de la celebración del año nuevo camboyano (año nuevo Khmer). 

lunes, en la escuela donde enseñamos inglés, jugamos juegos con los niños. El martes hubo una gran pelea de agua y los niños ponen polvo de bebé en el otro y nosotros. Muchos de nosotros estábamos empapados por el final de la tarde, pero fue muy divertido!

El miércoles Lideré la intercesión (oración y adoración) por mi equipo por la mañana; No estaba seguro de cómo iría, pero terminó yendo muy bien y fue tan genial ver como el Espíritu Santo tocó a la gente en mi equipo. Comencé enseñando las palabras y las mociones para dos cantos apostólicos de oración; uno de los chicos de mi equipo y su mamá me ayudaron a hacer esto. Durante el resto de nuestro tiempo les enseñé a hacer la actividad de oración del lugar seguro que había aprendido en mi pista de compasión en Kona. Mi esperanza en la enseñanza de esto fue de dos veces-1) que los miembros de mi equipo escucharían a Dios hablarles esa mañana y ser alentados ya que facilitaron la actividad en los socios y 2) que después de aprender este ejercicio podríamos utilizarlo en el Ministerio de niños aquí en Camboya. Ambos pasaron! También usamos la actividad de oración de lugar seguro para ministrar a los adultos en una pequeña iglesia del pueblo el domingo siguiente.

Semana 4 visitamos algunos sitios diferentes alrededor de Battambang y oramos y adoramos en estas áreas. Algunos de los lugares que visitamos incluyeron: matando cuevas y murciélagos, campos de matanza (Wat Somrong Knong), y Prasat Banan.

Semana 5 2 personas de nuestro equipo condujo a Phom Phen para tratar de renovar nuestra Visa allí, pero no tuvieron éxito así que más de miércoles y jueves viajamos a Tailandia para renovar nuestras visas como un equipo-días calurosos muy largos. :) Empecé a tener un montón de dolores corporales en el sábado antes de esto; El domingo despertó con dolor de cuerpo y fiebre alta y terminó el día habiendo desarrollado una erupción en mis manos, brazos y pies. La fiebre del lunes fue mucho menos, pero estaba bastante claro que tenía un caso leve de dengue fiebre! Mucha gente en mi equipo oró por mí durante el sábado y el domingo; Creo que podría haber sido mucho peor caso por lo que alabar a Dios por respuesta a la oración! TAN agradecido por la gente de mi equipo que me ayudó a cruzar la frontera y volver.

Mi fiebre alta y erupción se han ido totalmente ahora. Todavía tiene un poco de dolor de cuerpo y dolor de cabeza una vez en mientras y estoy luchando por la energía, pero hoy es un día de descanso para todo el equipo. Planeo ir a la iglesia del pueblo con miembros de mi equipo mañana y volver a ayudar en la escuela el lunes.

¡ Hay un mes más de DTS! Tenemos dos semanas más en Battambang, luego vamos a Siem Reap por 1 semana, luego volvemos a Kona, HI para volver a unirse con los otros equipos para 1 semana de Debrief.

dónde vivir y trabajar después de que DTS haya terminado-si tienes sugerencias/ideas que sigan enviándolas a mi manera!:) 
que yo confiaría en Dios para terminar las cosas que él comenzó a trabajar en mí durante DTS, incluso si el no parece haber terminado o tiene sentido en este momento.

Cambodia Outreach-Week 1 and 2

Cambodia Outreach-Week 1 and 2

I have been in Cambodia for 2 weeks now! There is internet at Khemara Battambang I Hotel where our team is staying...but it only works sometimes and it is VERY slow. :) Thankfully I have discovered internet at Home Cafe, which is a restaurant right across the street (so hopefully I can still write blog updates once in a while). I eat breakfast at this cafe almost every morning and have ordered dinner from here a couple times too. The have good fruit smoothies too.

Our first week in Cambodia was mostly about getting settled, connecting with the YWAM base here in Battambang, and finding out places where we might be serving. Our hotel is nice; it is in the mid to high 90's everyday and sometimes will reach 100 degrees F, so we are all grateful for the pool and the air-conditioning.  One really great thing we did during this first week was something we call a "Treasure Hunt". We prayed as a group and asked God to speak to us, to show us individually pictures or give us words, then we visited a market and walked around  in small groups praying and looking for the things God had spoken about or showed us.

God showed me a picture of a flower with dark pink/red petals on a yellow background. While walking around with my group I saw a lady with that design on her pants. I stopped to talked to her and learned that she had heal pain. Another person on my team and I prayed for her and the pain decreased a lot and maybe even went away completely! One group blessed a man with no legs with some bananas and another group ministered to a group of kids because of the pictures /words that God gave them.

This past week we started to find some consistency in our weekly schedule as we jumped into doing ministry. Right now, we have four main places to serve. In the afternoons during the week a few people are helping to disciple a pastor and three of his staff at a village church that is a 30 min tuk tuk ride away, the rest of us are helping teach english to kids at New Hope Christian School, this is a 20 min tuk tuk ride. The kids in the families on our outreach team are a big help in several of the classrooms assisting to teach the students. This week on Thursday morning we went to church and helped lead some kids ministry (songs, bible story, activity and praying for the individual kids and staff); it sounds like we will be at this church once a week! On Sunday afternoons we visit a youth ministry.

Sundays for church I think we will either go to the YWAM base, help at the village or help at church we go to on Thursdays.

Teaching English is an interesting challenge, especially since I don't know Khmer; I am trying to learn some words! The kids are great and I am enjoying building relationship with their regular teacher, who is not a Christian but is interested to learn more about Jesus.

Prayer:

Ways that you can be praying for the Cambodia Team:

1. Good health and protection from sickness. Several people on my team have been sick and we are not sure what causes it. Mostly painful stomach issues and headaches but some have also had high fever.
2. Unity- we are doing this well but it is SO important that we continue to be unified!
3. That our eyes would be open to every opportunity to share the gospel and pray for people: workers at the hotel, when we are out at restaurants, at the market, tuk tuk drivers, people on the YWAM base etc. We eat lunch at the base everyday except Saturday and part of why we are here is to bless the staff/students and minister to them during this time.
4. Strategies for discipleship, for teaching english and for incorporating the gospel into english class

There is still a month and half left in DTS but these are questions that are beginning to be on my heart and some things you can to begin to pray with me about:

1. What does God want me to do after outreach? 
2. When to buy my plane ticket back to Michigan?
3. A job and a place to live when DTS is done?

Thank you to everyone who has given financially to support me during my YWAM DTS! With your help and generous hearts I have raised $10, 598!! Praise God he is so faithful and so good :)

This amount covers my 3 months in Hawaii, my two months in Cambodia, and health insurance during the 5 month period. There is a portion of it left over after these expenses that I am praying will  be enough to cover my plane ticket home but I am going I going to leave my GoFundMe page open for a little while longer; it would be helpful if $300-$400 more support came in. Cruzada en Camboya-Semana 1 and 2

He estado en Camboya por 2 semanas ahora! Hay Internet en el Hotel Khemara Battambang I donde nuestro equipo se aloja... pero sólo funciona a veces y es muy lento. :) Afortunadamente he descubierto Internet en home cafe, que es un restaurante justo al otro lado de la calle (así que espero que todavía pueda escribir actualizaciones de blog de vez en cuando). Como desayuno en este café casi todas las mañanas y he pedido la cena de aquí un par de veces también. Los buenos batidos de frutas también.

Nuestra primera semana en Camboya se trataba principalmente de ser asentado, conectar con la base de YWAM aquí en Battambang, y encontrar lugares donde podríamos estar sirviendo. Nuestro hotel es agradable; es a mediados de los 90 de todos los días y a veces llegará a 100 grados F, así que estamos todos agradecidos por la piscina y el aire acondicionado. Una cosa realmente genial que hicimos durante esta primera semana fue algo que llamamos una "búsqueda del tesoro". Oramos como grupo y pedimos a Dios que nos hablara, para mostrarnos individualmente imágenes

Dios me mostró una imagen de una flor con pétalos de color rosa oscuro/rojo sobre un fondo amarillo. Mientras caminaba con mi grupo VI a una dama con ese diseño en sus pantalones. Me detuve a hablar con ella y aprendí que ella tenía dolor de curación. Otra persona en mi equipo y oré por ella y el dolor disminuyó mucho y tal vez incluso se fue completamente! Un grupo bendijo a un hombre sin piernas con algunos plátanos y otro grupo ministró a un grupo de niños debido a las imágenes/palabras que Dios les dio.

La semana pasada empezamos a encontrar consistencia en nuestro horario semanal mientras saltamos a hacer el Ministerio. En este momento, tenemos cuatro lugares principales para servir. Por las tardes durante la semana algunas personas están ayudando a discípulo de un pastor y tres de su personal en una iglesia del pueblo que está a 30 minutos en tuk tuk de distancia, el resto de nosotros estamos ayudando a enseñar inglés a los niños en la escuela cristiana de nueva esperanza , este es un viaje en tuk tuk de 20 minutos. Los niños de las familias en nuestro equipo de divulgación son una gran ayuda en varias de las aulas que asisten para enseñar a los estudiantes. Esta semana el jueves por la mañana fuimos a la iglesia y ayudamos a dirigir algunos niños Ministerio (canciones, historia de la Biblia, actividad y orar por los niños individuales y el personal); parece que vamos a estar en esta iglesia una vez a la semana! Los domingos por la tarde visitamos un ministerio juvenil.

Los domingos para la iglesia creo que vamos a ir a la base de YWAM, ayudar en el pueblo o ayudar en la iglesia que vamos a los jueves.

Enseñar inglés es un reto interesante, especialmente porque no conozco Khmer; Estoy tratando de aprender algunas palabras! Los niños son grandes y estoy disfrutando de la relación de construcción con su maestro regular, que no es cristiano, pero está interesado en aprender más acerca de Jesús.

Oración:  Maneras en las que puedes orar por el equipo de Camboya

1. La buena salud y la protección contra la enfermedad. Varias personas de mi equipo han estado enfermos y no estamos seguros de cuál es su causa. La mayoría dolorosos problemas estomacales y dolores de cabeza, pero algunos también han tenido fiebre alta. 
2. Unidad- que estamos haciendo esta bien pero es tan importante que sigamos siendo unified!
3. Que nuestros ojos estarían abiertos a toda oportunidad de compartir el Evangelio y orar por las personas: trabajadores en el Hotel, cuando estamos en restaurantes, en el mercado, conductores de tuk tuk, personas en la base de YWAM, etc. Comemos en la base todos los días excepto los sábados y parte de por qué estamos aquí es para bendecir el personal/los estudiantes y ministrar a ellos durante este tiempo. 
4.Estrategias para el discipulado, para enseñar inglés y para incorporar el evangelio en la clase de inglés

Todavía hay un mes y medio a la izquierda en DTS pero estas son preguntas que están comenzando a estar en mi corazón y algunas cosas que usted puede comenzar a orar conmigo acerca de:

1. ¿Qué quiere Dios que haga después de la divulgación?  
2. ¿Cuándo comprar mi boleto de avión de vuelta a Michigan? 
3. Un trabajo y un lugar para vivir cuando se realiza DTS?
