God Speaks-Prayer/Art Tool
On Wednesday, February 13 in my Compassion Track we learned about two prayer art tools that we could use with kids on outreach; we learned about one tool by our teacher facilitating us doing it and the other by facilitating each other doing it.
Using either tool here are some first steps:
1. Start by talking to the child and asking them if they know who God is and if they can describe Him. If the child doesn’t know help lay a foundation of truth about who God is: kind, loving, always with you, etc.
2. Ask the child if they would like to draw a picture with you and if they say yes ask them if they would be willing to pray with you.
3.Here is a suggested prayer for them to repeat after you: "Clean my heart and clean my mind Jesus; open the eyes of my heart to know you and lead me into truth. In Jesus Name Amen"
Scripture/Art Tool
Pick a passage in scripture and read it out loud. Before reading, give the child some art supplies and ask them to draw what they hear when you read the scripture.
When you’re done reading invite the child to tell you about the picture and ask if they heard God speak anything to them. Write whatever they heard God say on their picture; ask God if there are any words/scripture that He has for you to share with the child, and write what He says on their picture.
My instructor read out loud to us Revelation 4:1-6a and gave us water color paints to use. Here is the picture I drew with my fingers.
I wasn’t really sure what I was doing but could hear God telling me it didn’t matter He was going to guide me in what to draw. After finishing God said "Jesus is your king; you are a trumpet speaking what He has given you."
Also He said: "I will give you a new song and I will give you a new heart." With this phrase he direct me to Psalm 40.
Safe Place/Art Tool
With this tool do steps 1-3 above and then begin by asking the child to close their eyes and imagine a safe place. Then give them paper and pens/pencils/crayons and invite them to draw the picture they had just imagined. When they finish ask them to talk about where their safe place is and where they are in the picture. Ask them to imagine where Jesus is in the picture; ask them what He is doing, what His face looks like and if He is speaking something to them. Ask God if He has anything for you to share with them, maybe God gives you a picture or vision for them, maybe he gives you words or scripture. Write what God gives you on their picture or draw for them the picture or vision God gives you for them.
I had never met the girl I did this activity with so it was really quite awesome to see how God used her to speak into my life when I was doing the drawing and also to try listening to God for something to share with her as I facilitated her drawing. It was an amazing experience and I am excited to try it with kids on outreach.

Dios Habla-Herramienta de oración/arte
El miércoles, 13 de febrero en mi Track de Compasión aprendimos acerca de dos herramientas de oración/arte que podíamos usar con los niños en la cruzada; aprendimos acerca de una herramienta de nuestro maestro facilitándonos haciéndolo y el otro facilitando mutuamente haciéndolo.
El uso de cualquiera de las herramientas aquí son algunos primeros pasos:
1. Empiece por hablar con el niño y preguntarles si saben quién es Dios y si pueden describirlo. Si el niño no sabe, ayudar a sentar una base de la verdad sobre quién es Dios: bondadoso, cariñoso, siempre con usted, etc.
2.Pregunte al niño si les gustaría dibujar una foto con usted y si dicen que sí les pregunte si estarían dispuestos a orar con usted.
3.Aquí está una oración sugerida para que repitan después de usted: "limpie mi corazón y limpie mi mente Jesús; abrid los ojos de mi corazón para conoceros y conducirme a la verdad. En el nombre de Jesús Amen"
Herramienta de escritura/arte
Haga los pasos 1-.3 Escoge un pasaje en las escrituras y leerlo en voz alta. Antes de leer, dele a el niño algunas fuentes de arte y pídales que dibujen lo que escuchen cuando lean las escrituras.
Cuando termine de leer, invite al niño a contarle acerca de la imagen y a preguntar si oyeron a Dios hablar algo a él. Escriba lo que haya oído decir a Dios en su foto; pregunte a Dios si hay alguna palabra/escritura que él tenga para que usted comparta con el niño, y escriba lo que él dice en su imagen.
Mi instructor leyó en voz alta Apocalipsis 4:1-6a y nos dio pinturas de color de agua para usar. Aquí está la foto que dibujé con mis dedos.
No estaba muy seguro de lo que estaba haciendo, pero podía oír a Dios diciéndome que no importaba, él iba a guiarme en lo que dibujar. Después de terminar Dios dijo: "Jesús es tu rey; eres una trompeta hablando lo que él te ha dado.
También dijo: "te daré una nueva canción y te daré un nuevo corazón". Con esta frase me dirige al Salmo 40.
Herramienta de lugar seguro/arte
Con esta herramienta haga los pasos 1-3 arriba y luego comience pidiendo al niño que cierre los ojos e imagine un lugar seguro. A continuación, darles papel y plumas/lápices/crayones e invitarlos a dibujar la imagen que acababa de imaginar. Cuando terminen pídale que hable sobre dónde está su lugar seguro y dónde está en la foto. Pídale que se imaginen dónde está Jesús en la imagen; pregúntale qué está haciendo Jesus, cómo se ve su rostro y si él les está hablando algo. Pregunte a Dios si él tiene algo para que usted comparta con el niño, tal vez Dios le da una imagen o una visión para él, tal vez él le da palabras o escrituras. Escribe lo que Dios te da en su foto o dibuja para ellos la imagen o la visión que Dios te da por ellos.
Nunca había conocido a la estudiante con la que hice esta actividad, así que fue realmente impresionante ver cómo Dios la usó para hablar en mi vida cuando yo estaba haciendo el dibujo y también para tratar de escuchar a Dios por algo para compartir con ella mientras facilitaba su dibujo. Fue una experiencia increíble y estoy emocionada de probarlo con niños en la cruzada.
